Summary

The abandonment rates in South Africa are devastating with about 3500 children SURVIVING abandonment each year. Every child deserves to grow up in a loving and safe family so we provide a temporary place of safety for these precious children and our role is to make a traumatic time in their lives as safe and stable as possible, by providing for their every need. They experience a family environment while awaiting their own 'forever families'. We have facilitated over 100 adoptions to date.

Challenge

Only 3500 children survive abandonment every year in South Africa- these are devastating stats. These children grow up without a family and without hope, having experienced significant trauma and rejection at such a young age, the trajectory of their lives is not positive. We believe that every child deserves to be loved in a safe, resilient family and to be given the opportunities they deserve to create a whole, happy life of their own.

Solution

We have long term relationships with Durban Children Welfare and Department of Social development and work hard to in collaboration to resolve cases so that every child in our care is placed into a family. During a traumatic time in their lives (being abandoned and sometimes only found days later), we exist to provide a safe transition place for these children where they can experience family, love and care. We work hard to provide for their every need while they await their family placements.

Long-Term Impact

Research in the fields of neuroscience, biology and early childhood development provide powerful insights into how nutrition, relationships, and environments in the 1,000 days of a child's life shapes future outcomes. We believe that the loving attentive environment that we create for these children sets them up for a healthy, happy future. We work with medical professionals to provide for every health and developmental need to ensure that our children are not disadvantaged in any way.
