Youth unemployment remains one of the most pressing issues in Nigeria, with millions of young people facing limited job opportunities. At Sam Onyemaechi Humanitarian Foundation (SOHF), we are committed to revolutionizing youth employment by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to succeed in today’s economy. Although we have not yet received funding for this initiative, we remain focused on our mission to empower Nigerian youth.
Progress and Initiatives Despite the lack of funding, SOHF has taken several steps to lay the foundation for the success of the "Revolutionizing Youth Employment in Nigeria Now" initiative:
1. Certificate Program Partnership with EBU
In partnership with the European Business University of Luxembourg (EBU), we have enrolled in a select group of young people in certificate programs designed to enhance their skills and employability.
These certificate courses are highly valued and provide training in essential areas such as Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, and more. The courses are part of the EBU Certificate Impact Program, each valued at €740.
The students enrolled in these courses are provided with scholarship opportunities, where SOHF pays only the non-refundable application/commitment fee of €35 per student.
The students are being equipped with practical skills to enable them to thrive in the competitive job market and pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
2. Skills Development and Training
SOHF is working to offer various skills development programs, focusing on entrepreneurship, digital skills, and other vocational training, to ensure that the youth are not only job seekers but also job creators.
We are collaborating with local businesses and industries to tailor training programs that meet market needs and empower young people to build sustainable careers.
3. Networking and Mentorship
SOHF is facilitating connections between the youth and industry professionals to provide mentorship, guidance, and access to job opportunities.
We are leveraging our network of partners to organize career fairs, networking events, and workshops that focus on improving the employability of young Nigerians.
Challenges and Opportunities
Lack of Funding: The absence of financial support has slowed the full implementation of our youth employment initiatives, including the scaling of training programs and recruitment of more participants.
Access to Training Resources: Limited resources for conducting training programs hinder our ability to reach more youth in need.
Opportunities for Growth: With proper funding, we can expand our capacity to train and empower thousands of youth, enhance their employability, and support them in creating their own businesses.
Future Prospects and Next Steps
We aim to scale the certificate program through EBU, enrolling more youth in the highly impactful courses that will give them a competitive edge in the job market.
To expand training opportunities, we will seek partnerships with corporations, NGOs, and international organizations that align with our mission to promote youth employment.
We plan to launch additional vocational training centers and entrepreneurship hubs in key regions across Nigeria to reach more young people.
