Molo Songololo will support and empower 100 girl who are victims of sexual abuse and exploitation from poor rural and urban communities to enjoy human dignity and attain justice through; receiving and making reports, assessments and referrals; conducting family, school, police reporting and court support; providing counselling and therapeutic sessions; hosting healing and empowerment camps; and providing sanitary pads and toiletries
Sexual abuse and exploitation of children is endemic in South Africa. Police state that 23 488 cases was reported in 2017-2018. Girl children between 10 and 17-years are particularly vulnerable to be sexual abused and exploited by people their know and live with. Our work with girl victims indicate that girls are groomed, manipulated and deceived not to tell, parents and caregivers turn a blind-eye; and sex in exchange for something is common and normalised as 'survival strategies'.
Providing direct ongoing support, counselling and therapeutic services to girl victims of sexual abuse and exploitation, and empower them with knowledge about the rights and responsibilities; and for their care-givers and parents; to increase police reporting and prosecutions in court; children's prospects for survival and the future, assess to services and their recovery and healing process, family and school support - and stay in school Cases are reported to police and prosecuted
We will provide 100 girl victims of sexual abuse and exploitation with support and empowerment to recover and heal from the trauma experienced, have improved parent / family support, have improved coping skills, mindfulness well-being, are informed and have knowledge about their rights and responsibilities; stay in school and complete school, have improved future prospects; and have skills to prevent, reduce and combat risks of sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
