Hygiene items became much more important among refugee communities in the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people cannot afford hygiene items and particularly women face many difficulties including life treating virus risk. This project aims to provide dignity kits for young girls and women which includes basic hygiene items to 2.000 beneficiaries.
Turkey hosts the greatest number of refugees (more than four million) in the world. Refugees face many different challenges and these challenges have greater effects on refugee women as they have fewer opportunities to access income generation. The gender gap makes women much more vulnerable and open for any kind of risk. UN Women's research shows that COVID-19 effected refugee women much more comparing men.
The dignity kits provide basic hygiene items for young girls and women to combat against with COVID-19 in particular and help women to access hygiene as a basic human right in general.
Currently, COVID-19 is a serious public health issue in Turkey. With stable high positive diagnosis, refugees are an at-risk group with their challenges to access to basic hygiene materials. Because of the gender gap and their specific challenges to access the income-generating activities, women are in a higher risk group. The provided dignity kits which will include basic hygiene materials specifically tailored for 2000 young women and girls will help them to prevent from infection.
