Challenge

Asylum seekers in Sofia's reception centers face inhumane conditions-sleeping on old, bedbug-infested mattresses, with little to no access to cleaning supplies. The lack of basic hygiene materials, such as bleach, disinfectants, and mops, exposes them to serious health risks. Unsanitary environments worsen their physical and emotional well-being, stripping them of dignity and violating their basic human rights.

Solution

This project will provide clean mattresses, disinfectants, bleach, mops, and other essential cleaning materials to improve hygiene and comfort in Sofia's reception centers. It will reduce health risks, combat infestations, and restore basic dignity. Info sessions led by a cultural mediator and a lawyer will empower asylum seekers with knowledge of their rights and available support, helping them navigate life in Bulgaria with greater confidence and security.

Long-Term Impact

By improving hygiene and living conditions, the project will enhance the physical and mental well-being of asylum seekers, fostering a safer and more dignified environment. Empowering them with knowledge of their rights through info sessions builds resilience, confidence, and trust in institutions. In the long term, this support can contribute to smoother integration, reduce vulnerability, and promote a more inclusive and humane asylum system in Bulgaria.
