In rural Yobe, disability is often viewed as a curse, forcing children into hiding. This project empowers 250 families to break the silence, fighting deep-rooted stigma with education and rights advocacy. We provide parents with the essential skills to demand healthcare, access inclusive schools, and protect their children. Your support transforms 250 homes from places of isolation into safe havens, ensuring no child is left behind because of a disability.
Hundreds of children with disabilities in Yobe are "hidden" at home, denied school and medical care due to severe cultural stigma. Families often believe disability is a supernatural burden, leading to neglect, abuse, and total social exclusion. Without intervention, these vulnerable children face a lifetime of illiteracy and extreme poverty. They are currently invisible to society, lacking the voice to demand their basic human rights.
We replace stigma with support. We will train 250 families on disability rights, specialized caregiving, and advocacy, giving them the confidence to fight for their children. We will also host community town halls to dismantle harmful myths and replace fear with understanding. Finally, we directly link these families to existing health and education services. We do not just ask for acceptance; we build the local capacity to enforce it.
We are building a permanent culture of acceptance in Yobe. By equipping 250 families as lifelong advocates, we create a safe environment for over 1,000 children (beneficiaries and siblings) to thrive. These children will move from hidden isolation to public education, eventually becoming independent adults. We are breaking the generational cycle of poverty and proving that every child, regardless of ability, is a valuable member of society.
