The Disability Inclusive Response on COVID-19 project intend to increase and improve access to Covid-19 information , messages and essential services for women and girls with disabilities to enable them protect themselves from contracting the virus. The project would like to translate COVID-19 information and messages into disability friendly formats such as braille, large print and sign language communication and provision of personal protective equipment and other essential services.
Traditional Authority Somba in Blantyre rural District, where women and girls with disabilities miss out opportunities and are denied access to Covid-19 information, messages and essential services to enable them protect themselves from the virus and join efforts in fighting against COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 information and messages being populirised in the community are not in accessible formats such as braille, large print and sign language communication to the persons with disabilities
The project would like to translate COVID-19 information and messages into braille, large print and sign language communication in order to ensure that the COVID-19 information and messages are disability Inclusive and ensure that essential services such personal protective equipment such as Facemasks, soap, gloves and sanitizers are supplied to the women and girls with disabilities so as to enhance Disability Inclusive Response on COVID-19-Better for All Goals as stipulated in UN COVID-19 guide
The focus for this application is to increase and improve access to Covid-19 information and messages to the women and girls with disabilities and through this proposed initiative, the vulnerable group will be able to protect themselves a desperate also joining the global efforts in slowing the spread of the virus. This is a missing link on the ground that messages are there but not reaching to the entire community members. So, this proposed project will close the gap that was there on COVID-19.
