The living condition of disabled people in rural Nepal is severely bad because of immobility, discrimination, poverty and lack of access to the social protection and healthcare. This project will work closely with 700 disabled people in Mahadewa rural municipality by providing them assistive devices, improve social inclusion, create livelihood opportunities, enable them through education and advocacy so they can benefit from available social protection and health care services.
There are 700 disabled people live in Mahadewa rural municipality. The government do provide a social protection allowance and free healthcare to card holders. But it is insufficient and, many are still not receiving the benefits card due to corruption and the demanding formalities. The disabled people also lack of assistive devices which further restrict them from what they can do. In addition, people in rural Nepal still believe that disability is a curse and they face severe discrimination.
This project will provide assistive devices according to their type of disability and train them to use it so their functional abilities will improve. With our help, advice and support, they can qualify to receive the government social protection benefits. The project will also create ability specific livelihood opportunities that brings them an additional income. Economic empowerment and ability to do more consequently, will improve the living condition of disabled people in Mahadewa.
The living condition of the 700 disabled people in Mahadewa rural municipality will be improved by improving their functional abilities, participation in socio-economic activities and economic empowerment. Similarly, the belief that disability is a curse will also slowly be gone and, the disabled people will be able to live a happy life.
