This project will provide 12,000 bespoke therapy sessions for disabled children at The Tony Hawks Centre. This is the foremost pediatric healthcare centre in Moldova, giving free therapy, education and social care to over 600 children from vulnerable families.
In Moldova, Europe's poorest country, the Soviet Union's legacy lingers on in the mind-set of the State. Children with disabilities are stigmatised by government and community. The USSR's collapse and political corruption have left the state health care system financially unable to meet the population's needs. For parents of disabled children, treatment is virtually impossible to access. At the Tony Hawks Centre we provide children free medical treatment, emotional support and lasting change.
The Tony Hawks Centre provides free, comprehensive and holistic care to children with disabilities (physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, massage, a sensory room, and speech and music therapy). Trained therapists ensure a child receives the treatment they require, whilst educating parents on the skills needed to extend this care to their homes.
This project will fund trained physiotherapists to give 12000 sessions a year to children in need. By providing rehabilitation and parental education, disabled children will reach their physical potential and be enabled to integrate into society. This vital support will also help promote a shift in families, away from the old state mentality, to prevent children being abandoned to institutions. The Tony Hawks Centre provides bespoke care to 600 children a year, each receiving ~20 sessions
