Improving the life of chronically ill children

Dear supporters,

Thanks to your generosity the work of the Tony Hawks Rehabilitation Centre in Chisinau, Moldova, continues to ensure that some of the most vulnerable children in this former Soviet Union republic can receive the love, care and professional attention they so desperately need. Children in this region born with disability are all too often side-lined, with little or no opportunity to advance, but thanks to the kindness of their patron Tony Hawks (British comic and writer) the rehabilitation centre in Chisinau was built, and thanks to the ongoing support of people like yourself some 600 children a year can receive free of charge the therapeutic care they need in a child-friendly atmosphere. Children can for instance receive physio-, hydro-, and speech-therapy, often supplemented with the likes of music and touch therapy, while their parents can at the same time consult with social workers, or are taught the life skills they need to support their child between sessions.

Adela for instance was born in 2008, and was promptly diagnosed as having a severe form of cerebral palsy. Her life could easily have been one restricted to a bed with a limited view out of a window. Instead she was offered free care at the Tony Hawks Centre, and over the years since her body has strengthened and her horizons opened. She can now cope with stairs, and with the opening of the hydrotherapy pool has even learnt to swim. All of this because of supporters such as yourself who are helping fund her ongoing care.

Thank you.
