Helping children reach their full potential- Arina

By Tina Moira | Project Leader

Arina lives with her brother and sister, her parents (who both work, her mother is a teacher) and with her grandfather who also help with the household bills as communal services are proving more and more expensive.

Arina suffers from congenital myopathy, a broad term for a muscle disorder present at birth. This health defect primarily affects muscle tone, and causes muscular weakness and/or hypotonia (floppy baby syndrome).

Her health however has been good, but because of her congenital health problems, Arina does not attend kindergarten. Her education is currently being provided by her mother and her grandfather. Her brothers are also involved  as she demands they tell her what they have learnt each day.

Arina is very talkative little girl, and she loves to ask questions and her sister and older brother love to make her life more interesting. Arina also enjoys watching children’s cartoons.

The Tony Hawks Centre provides Arina free-to-access rehabilitation courses consisting of massage, physio, hydro and speech therapy. She has also received some financial support for educational supplies, and an adapted wheelchair which she can use in the house – which makes her very happy.

By supporting this project 12,000 bespoke therapy sessions will be provided to disabled children at The Tony Hawks Centre. This is the foremost paediatric healthcare centre in Moldova, giving free therapy, education and social care to over 600 children from vulnerable families.

Your support is changing the lives of children.

Thank you.
