This project involves setting- up a Rehabilitation Centre for disabled persons to provide treatments such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other forms of therapy including vocational training for the empowerment of disabled persons. To date there are so many States in Nigeria that has no such Rehabilitation Centre to cater for disable persons institutionally, Like Kogi, Benue, Niger, Jigawa, Kastina, etc that can serve the population of over 152,231 disabled people
Children with disability between the ages of 0-17 with a mental and/or physical disability in Nigeria, who live in poor needy families that cannot afford (medical) or those that need empowerment to enable them function effectively in the society are in growing number. Many disabled children in Nigeria do not get the appropriate support services. You will find a lot of disable children and adult begging for arms. This project would provide support services for 152,231 disabled people
The proposed Centre will be built in a location close to a government school for the children to attend. It will be close to major bus routes so that the centre is easily accessible. Special, individually tailored education will be provided at the centres for those children who are unable to attend the mainstream school. The primary focus will be on special education with additional support, such as physiotherapy and vocational training. Each child will have specific plan and empowerment goal
The Centre will make available the following support services for disabled persons in host community and neighboring communities and States such as medical Care, physiotherapy and empowerment. Part of its impact will be provision of day-care for children between the ages 0 - 5 and rehabilitation for disabled people between the ages of 0- 17 years and resident for selected disable children who we will equip with special skills such as craft making, sports, etc.
