Dear GlobalGiving Team, donors, and supporters,
Subjecy: Sudan Emergency Fund – Three-Year Update
Darfur Women Network (DWN)
Today marks three years since the outbreak of the civil war in Sudan on April 15, 2023. What began as conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has evolved into one of the world’s most devastating humanitarian crises.
Since the start of the war, civilians have borne the brunt of the violence. The RSF has systematically targeted communities—killing, displacing millions, committing widespread sexual violence, confiscating homes and land, and resettling others in their place. Entire systems have collapsed. Families have been torn apart. People have lost not only their homes and livelihoods, but also their loved ones, their sense of belonging, and their dreams for the future.
At this critical moment, the absence of meaningful international intervention has deepened the suffering. Yet amid this crisis, solidarity has emerged.
Through the Sudan Emergency Fund, our partner GlobalGiving, alongside dedicated donors and supporters, has stood with us. Their flexible and rapid-response funding has enabled Darfur Women Network (DWN) to act swiftly and effectively—delivering life-saving assistance and protection services to displaced women and girls in besieged cities and refugee camps.
We have worked directly with local community members on the frontlines—individuals who continue to serve despite ongoing drone strikes and ground attacks. This community-led approach ensures that resources reach those most in need and are used strategically to support emergency relief, protection services, and early recovery efforts.
Capacity Building for Long-Term Resilience
While responding to urgent humanitarian needs, DWN is also investing in sustainable solutions that support recovery and resilience.
Agricultural Training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
In partnership with Rainbow Agricultural Training Center and in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Directorate of Agricultural Extension & Technology Transfer, DWN conducted a specialized training on February 28, 2026.
This training brought together participants from across Sudan and was led by a senior agricultural expert serving as Director General of Agricultural Extension and an international consultant.
Key topics included:
This initiative equips communities with practical knowledge to improve productivity, ensure food safety, and strengthen livelihoods.
Upcoming Training: Cooperatives as Business Platforms
DWN is continuing its partnership with Rainbow Agricultural Training Center to deliver a second training on April 26, 2026, focused on strengthening economic resilience.
Training focus areas:
Participants from across Sudan will join this online training.
Challenges:
Despite strong interest, participants face significant barriers, including limited internet access, time zone differences, and lack of digital tools—especially for those in remote and conflict-affected areas.
Looking Ahead
Thanks to your continued support, DWN is able to respond across multiple phases of this crisis—from emergency, life-saving interventions to long-term capacity building and recovery.
Your solidarity is making it possible to:
In a time when hope can feel distant, your commitment reminds us that we are not alone—and that together, we can continue to stand with the people of Sudan.
Thank you
