Every day, Etheme balances caring for her six children with making pottery to support her family in rural Ethiopia.
When her youngest children, 15-month-old Tarike and three-year-old Temesgen, developed trachoma, they became increasingly uncomfortable. Their eyes were painful and sensitive to light, making it difficult to play outdoors or enjoy the activities they loved.
Thanks to Orbis' door-to-door approach, local health workers were able to identify the family and ensure they received the treatment they needed.
Etheme received sight-saving eye ointment for Tarike and Temesgen, along with guidance from local health workers on how to apply it correctly. The treatment eased their symptoms immediately and cleared the infection. Today, Tarike and Temesgen are recovering well, and Etheme looks forward to seeing her children grow up healthy, confident and able to attend school.
