Visions for Children e.V. has set itself the goal of informing schoolchildren about global processes, especially in connection with international crises and conflicts. The causes and consequences of crises, the right to education and approaches to development policy solutions are dealt with using Afghanistan as an example. The project includes the optimization of existing teaching materials from the previous domestic project as well as the development of new materials for the lower school level.
Pupils in Germany have too little contact with the topic of development cooperation in school lessons. Current curricula do not sufficiently address the living conditions and effects of crises on regions/states affected by poverty and war. This makes it difficult for students to see the complex situations involved from different perspectives. Students are also often unaware their own role and Germany's and responsibility in solving global crises.
We are firmly convinced that it is most effective to start precisely where the most can be done for the future: in the schools. Therefore, we want to further improve the existing teaching materials from the previous domestic project and develop new materials for the lower school. This will make children and young people aware of development policy issues at an early age.
The project will sensitize young people at an early stage and promote their appreciation of education. Apart from that, the encounter with such topics at such a young age can have a lasting impact on the childrens view of the world. Furthermore, the teaching staff in Germany will be encouraged to give more space to the topic of sustainable development cooperation in their curricula.
