From Hunger to Hope: Caring for Destitute Elders with Love

Dear Respected Donors,

Warm greetings from SERUDS!

One of our most heartfelt missions has always been to care for destitute elderly individuals who have been left behind by society. Since 2009, when devastating floods struck Kurnool, countless families were displaced—some moved within the district, while many migrated elsewhere in search of livelihoods. Tragically, in this process, many elderly parents and grandparents were abandoned in slum areas and native villages, left with no one to care for them.

During those difficult times, we identified around 30 elderly men and women, aged between 60 and 90 years, living in the Harijanawada and Budhavarapeta slums. Their daily struggle for survival was heartbreaking—some begged at temples and marketplaces, while others endured hunger and loneliness. Witnessing their suffering, SERUDS made a firm commitment: to restore dignity in their lives by providing daily nutritious meals and compassionate care.

Daily Meals That Bring Comfort and Health

At our old age care center, we serve wholesome meals every day. A typical plate includes:

  • Steamed rice

  • Tamarind dal (lentil soup)

  • Lemon rice

  • Fresh fruits and curd

  • Mixed vegetable curry

  • Pickles and rasam

This balanced diet not only fills their stomachs but also strengthens their health and vitality. Over time, we have seen remarkable improvements in their well-being—less fatigue, fewer health issues, and renewed energy to live with dignity.

Beyond Food: Restoring Self-Worth

Food is just one part of our support. We also distribute new clothing, ensuring the elderly feel respected and cared for. For many of them, receiving clean clothes is as meaningful as the meals—it restores their confidence and sense of belonging. Most importantly, they no longer need to depend on begging or uncertain help from strangers. Instead, they live with pride, independence, and peace of mind.

The Role of Donors Like You

None of this transformation would be possible without the generosity of donors like you. Your contributions are not just providing meals—they are restoring dignity, hope, and joy in the twilight years of these elders’ lives. Every plate of food served is a reminder that they are not forgotten, that there are kind-hearted people who care about them.

Your kindness has turned despair into relief, loneliness into companionship, and hunger into nourishment. For that, we extend our deepest gratitude.

Together, we are proving that humanity and compassion can transform lives.

With heartfelt thanks,
Team SERUDS
