We thank you for your support of our Agwata clinic in Northern Uganda. The past year has been a tough one but we are weathering the storm with your help1
The Agwata clinic continues to experience a higher than normal volume of patients visiting it each day, Monday to Saturday. Most patients come from a 4 kilometer radius around the clinic but some may travel from as far away as 10 or 12 kilometers, usually on foot.
During this past year of Covid-19, we have provided extra support to elderly women living within our clinic's outreach area. These elderly women rely on our clinic for their medical care because traveling further away would be very difficult for them. As part of the clinic's outreach activities, we have had two different distributions of extra nonperishable food items plus supplies such as a tarp to help protect the women from heavy rains. We are scheduling a third distribution soon.
We've included two photos which show one of the food distributions to these women. They are very grateful for the clinic's support and the fact that is close by and they don't have to walk 17 kilometers to the next closest medical facility.
Many times, our clinic has medicines on hand when other clinics have no medicine. Since the Covid-19 pandemic began last March, more patients have come to our clinic for malaria treatment as well as many other ailments. We have also continued assisting the clinic with ambulance support during the night hours when motorcycles do not operate.
Our clinic has taken many precautions and strengthened its saitization procedures as required by the government to help prevent the spread of Covid-19. So far, we have been fortunate not too have many Covid cases in our area although Uganda's more populated areas and capital city of Kampala is experiencing lots of cases, many of which have dire outcomes.
All of this has resulted in increased expenses of the clinic for medicines, staff time, fuel to operate the ambulance, and additional personal protective equipment and sanitization supplies.
So far, we've been able to keep up with this increased demand due to your continued support.
Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts!
