From a rural village in Yolombó, Antioquia in Colombia, Sebastián has shown that physical barriers are no match for his will to live, learn, and grow. He is only 13 years old and faces the daily challenges of a complex medical condition: spina bifida—a diagnosis that has affected his body, but never his spirit.
For years, Sebastián had to travel to school on a donkey. His family, living in deep poverty, did everything they could to make sure he didn’t fall behind. Thanks to the support of the Patronato Foundation, he now has a wheelchair, giving him back something as basic yet powerful as the ability to move independently. We've also made it possible for him to receive therapy in his hometown, since his parents can’t afford to take him to Medellín for treatment.
His journey is far from over. Sebastián needs to continue his comprehensive rehabilitation—a process that includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, specialized medical care, and ongoing monitoring. These are crucial to prevent setbacks that could harm his physical and emotional development. He has already made important progress, but without continued treatment, his condition can deteriorate quickly.
Despite his limitations, Sebastián smiles, sings, paints, and dreams. He loves music, has incredible creativity, and an amazing ability to adapt. The only thing he’s missing is your support.
Today, we ask you to join us. Your donation can change Sebastián’s life and give him the chance to keep building his future with strength and hope.
Thank you for being part of this important journey.
