In the span of just five years, Green Phenix has undergone a remarkable transformation – evolving from a project in the founder's garden into a dynamic movement that is reshaping the landscape of sustainability in Curacao. From its modest beginnings, marked by a passionate commitment to tackling unemployment and waste management, Green Phenix has flourished into a force for change, annually hosting 24 Learn and Work Training (LWT) programs and establishing a robust core team.

Central to this journey has been the establishment of a plastic collection infrastructure spanning over 50 locations, a testament to the organization's dedication to addressing the pressing environmental challenges facing the island. Now, as Green Phenix enters its next chapter, it is with great excitement and anticipation that we announce the transition of daily operations to Tijmen de Vries.

Having dedicated himself to the cause for over a year, Tijmen embodies the spirit of Green Phenix – a tireless advocate for sustainability, armed with a vision for a more equitable and resilient future. With a proven track record of leadership and a deep-seated commitment to community empowerment, Tijmen is poised to lead Green Phenix into a new era of growth and impact.

Evaluation and Improvement:

In 2024, Green Phenix is committed to a process of introspection and refinement, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and impact of our existing programs while broadening our scope to encompass broader sustainability imperatives. Recognizing that our mission extends beyond the realm of plastic waste, we have undertaken a comprehensive evaluation of our initiatives, seeking to identify areas for improvement and innovation.

Green Phenix has embraced a holistic perspective on sustainability, recognizing the interconnectedness of environmental, social, and economic dimensions. Our expanded focus has enabled us to explore innovative approaches to address the multifaceted challenges facing our community, from waste management to job creation and beyond.

Learn and Work Programs:

Our Learn and Work programs remain at the heart of our mission. These programs are designed to equip participants with valuable skills that are in demand in the marketplace. We're proud to report that the majority of our participants have successfully transitioned into gainful employment, with the support of our programs. However, we recognize that some individuals face unique challenges that make traditional employment difficult. To address this, we're exploring the creation of day activity programs, which will serve as an extension of our Learn and Work initiatives.

Impact and Future Outlook:

The impact of our work extends far beyond the individuals we directly serve. By empowering marginalized individuals and repurposing plastic waste, we're contributing to a brighter future for Curacao. Our efforts have led to reduced unemployment rates, improved plastic collection, and a shift towards a more sustainable, inclusive society. But our work is far from over. As we look ahead, we're committed to expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and continuing to drive positive change in our community.

Conclusion:

Supporting Green Phenix means investing in a brighter future for Curacao. Your support allows us to continue empowering individuals, tackling environmental challenges, and building a more sustainable, inclusive society. Together, we can create lasting change and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you for your continued support.
