NARRATIVE AND FINANCIAL PROJECT PROGRESS REPORT 1

By GBELE-GUEWE Djobo Ousmane | Coordinator of NGO CAV

INTRODUCTION

The implementation of the activities of the project "Improving access to water for the communities of Alibi II and Tchèkèlè in the District of Tchamba, Adam-Kôkôrô-Peulh, Bowounda, Tchavadi and Kparatao in the District  of Tchaoudjo" began on February 07, 2023 with the stage of sensitization of the beneficiary communities of the project. It is implemented by the NGO CAV with the financial support of the COCH Family, Mr Sy. Ibrah and an anonymous person through GlobalGiving.

As part of this project, the NGO CAV mobilized a large grant from the COCH Family ($37,000.00), Mr Sy. Ibrah ($20) and an anonymous ($25) through GlobalGiving.

This report summarizes all activities carried out from February 07 to March 20, 2023.

PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES

I - NARRATIVE PROJET

The following activities were carried out during this period:

-       Sensitization of the population on the project and establishment of drilling sites;

-       Carrying out geophysical studies;

-       Drilling of wells;

-       Water pumping and analysis

-       Monitoring of project activities.

1.1   Sensitization of the population on the project and establishment of the drilling sites:

The technical team of the project with the technical support of an agent of the Regional Direction of Hydraulics toured the six (6) beneficiary localities of the projects for the sensitization stage. These sensitizations took place from February 07 to 10, 2023

During these sensitizations, the beneficiaries were equipped on their responsibilities to henceforth take charge of the management and maintenance of the structures to be built.

A space of at least a quarter of a hectare has been chosen by each community for the geophysical studies. This space that has been chosen is one belonging to the entire community or space donated by the community or landowners with proof of ownership of the site.

1.2   Geophysical studies:

Prospecting or geophysical studies were carried out on the sites chosen by the communities. These studies revealed the existence of abundant water tables between 60 and 120 meters deep.

Two sites were chosen for the geophysical studies in each locality so that in case of failure of the first, the second can be used for the second drilling.

The geophysical studies took place in the beneficiary communities from February 14 to 17, 2023.

1.3   Drilling, development and equipment of boreholes

The drilling and development works took place from February 20 to 23, 2023. These works were successfully carried out in Boounda, Tchèkèlè and Alibi II. On the other hand those of the village ADAM Kôkôrô proved negative after two (2) drilling attempts. A third foreclosure attempt was successfully made on March 2, 2023.

1.4   Pumping and physico-chemical and microbiological analyzes of borehole water:

After drilling and development, it is essential to pump and take water samples for physico-chemical and bacteriological analyses.

Pumping consists of:

ü  Measure the flow rate of the borehole;

ü  Determine the variation of its production at different flow rates;

ü  Quantify aquifer characteristics, including permeability coefficient and water storage capacity

The pumping data is given in the table below:

At the end of the pumping, water samples were taken for analysis in the laboratory, at the Regional Directorate of Hygiene and Sanitation. The analyzes were carried out from March 13 to 15, 2023. The results of the microbiological and physico-chemical analyzes were deemed satisfactory and can be consumed without being treated.

1.1   Coordination and monitoring of project activities.

Follow-ups were carried out by the project team. This team is made up of the Coordinator, the Accountant and the Cashier of the NGO. Drilling monitoring tours were organized during the drilling and water pumping works. Telephone, e-mail and Whatsapp contacts were exchanged between the project team, the company and the project's technical monitoring officer.

1.2   Next steps:

The activities to be carried out from April 2023 are as follows

- Supply of equipment and installation of mechanical and photovoltaic power systems (Build the superstructure of the human-powered boreholes; Build the water tower that will support the polytank and the solar panels)

- Realization of the fence of the market gardening site of the women's groups of Kparatao;

- Water extension at the Tchavadi health center;

- Support to the community to set up Water Committees, responsible for monitoring and managing the borehole and training them on the maintenance and sustainable management of the boreholes;

- Technical and provisional acceptance of works

- Final acceptance of the works.

- Monitoring and supervision of project activities.

Done in Sokodé, March 22, 2023.
