Early Childhood Intervention Service for Amy

By Sally Lin | Project Coordinator

Amy, who swayed from side to side when walking due to flat feet, was diagnosed with Down's syndrome after being sent to the hospital for treatment for jaundice that had not subsided at about three months old. Then, Amy's mother brought her to Eden for early intervention treatment through a referral. When Amy first arrived at the daycare, her ability to adapt and interact socially was a bit weak. After individualized lessons and repetitive practices, she is now able to greet people on her own initiative and understand simple life instructions.

However, because of inconvenient transportation, poor medical resources, lack of professional staff, and discriminatory perception, developmentally delayed children in rural areas are less likely to be identified. Also, available resources and learning stimulation are also scarce for them to obtain. To promote the concept and services of early childhood intervention, we bring early intervention resources to rural areas through our mobile care van and provide continuous services by arranging many child developmental activities. This includes screening activities for child development, early intervention advocacy, professional team tour counseling, child development consultation services, daycare, in-home care resources for children and families with suspected developmental delays, and helping children enter general kindergartens or elementary schools.

For those developmentally delayed children, growing up has never been easy! It takes a lot of practice and the company of family members to grow up slowly, as well as the warm support of the public. "It takes a village to raise a child." Eden sincerely invites you to support the "Early Intervention Service Program for Developmentally Delayed Children " and accompany developmentally delayed children to grow up healthily!
