In response to the devastating 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Hualien, Taiwan, on April 3, 2024, The Mustard Seed Mission (MSM) has mobilised its network for immediate relief and long-term recovery support to the affected communities. As Taiwan's pioneering local social welfare organisation, MSM's efforts encompass emergency shelter, care services, and the rehabilitation of damaged homes and infrastructure, aiming to restore safety, stability, and hope to the lives upturned by this disaster.
The April 3 earthquake, the most significant since the 921 earthquake, has left Hualien in ruins-collapsing homes, disrupting lives, and creating an urgent need for shelter, supplies, and support. The disaster has severely affected vulnerable populations, including children and the elderly, exacerbating the challenges faced by these communities in achieving normalcy.
MSM has swiftly acted in coordination with local authorities to provide emergency relief and assess the safety of affected buildings. Through the "Community Service Network", MSM is delivering essential supplies, financial aid, and shelter while planning for the recovery phase. Efforts include temporary housing, educational support for affected children, and coordinating resources for the restoration of damaged homes, ensuring families return to safe living conditions.
MSM's holistic approach aims not just to address immediate needs but to foster long-term resilience and self-sufficiency among affected communities. By repairing homes, supporting education, and providing psychosocial support, MSM helps rebuild lives and communities stronger than before.
