On September 8, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit the High Atlas region where our boarding houses are located. Five out of six of EFA's boarding houses were destroyed. All students from the region have been temporarily relocated to schools near Marrakech. Your donations will enable us to continue providing and running temporary boarding house accommodation and care for EFA students during the recovery period as well as (re)build new houses and repair the damaged houses.
A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has devastated the High Atlas region of Morocco. This is the area where Education For All run boarding houses so that teenage girls who live in remote areas can access the local schools and receive resources and support. All our boarding houses were severely damaged by the earthquake. One will need repairs and the remaining five will need to be rebuilt. We also lost all inventory ie computers, furniture and other soft and hard furnishings.
This project will raise funds for the short- & long-term recovery of EFA's operations post-earthquake. This includes the rental of temporary houses and the cost of running these houses to ensure that the EFA students can continue accessing education in this transition phase. As well as the emergency repair of one house and the rebuilding of the other 5 damaged houses and replacement of their contents.
Being able to run boarding houses at full capacity to continue fulfilling our mission of giving teenage girls access to education in rural Morocco. These girls are breaking the cycle of poverty. An educated girl tends to marry at a later age and has higher earning power that allows her to provide for her family, contribute to the global economy and elevate her community. They tend to lead healthier, more productive lives and have more control and power of it reducing inequality.
