For four years, Aku Community in Okigwe LGA, Imo State , Nigeria endured violent insecurity that claimed many innocent lives and left families traumatized. This project will establish an Easter Island of Hope, a peaceful memorial park using art, music, and reflection to honor victims, support healing, and transform collective grief into resilience, unity, and a lasting commitment to peace.
From 2021 to 2024, persistent insecurity in Aku Community led to tragic loss of lives, displacement, and unresolved trauma. Families mourn without a dignified space to remember loved ones, while youth grow up surrounded by pain and silence. Without a shared memorial, grief remains unhealed and the lessons of this crisis risk being forgotten.
We will build an Easter Island Memorial Park in Aku Community featuring a central monument, remembrance wall, art installations, and a space for music and reflection. The site will host annual Easter remembrance events, community art and music sessions, and peace dialogues, using creativity and culture to promote healing, unity, and non-violence.
The memorial will preserve the history of loss while promoting peace education, reconciliation, and community resilience in Okigwe LGA. Long term, it will serve as a center for remembrance, youth engagement, and cultural expression, ensuring victims are never forgotten and future generations are inspired to reject violence and build a peaceful society.
