Summary

This project will help to build 50 eco-innovative homes for families living in extreme poverty in Dominican Republic, and for the first time they will have access to clean water, sanitation and clean energy. These eco-innovative homes are built with recycled plastic through the partnership with Habitat's local affiliate in the Dominican Republic.

Challenge

Sabana Yegua Viejo is located in Azua, Dominican Republic. There are many challenges ahead in this community of 50 families in aspects such as production disadvantages, natural resources and environmental degradation as well as poverty, precarious homes, social inequality and producing a negative effect to the quality of life around lack of access to adequate sources of water and sanitation, clean and affordable energy, adolescent pregnancy and maternal and infant mortality.

Solution

NPF is creating a sustainable community model of access to essential services to homes like clean water, energy, basic sanitation system and solid redevelopment of homes, that will be re-constructed with recycled plastic.

Long-Term Impact

This achievement will improve the living conditions through clean water, energy, a new home that have a positive impact in the habits of the beneficiary population, 50 families living in Sabana Yegua Viejo, Azua, DR. This model can be replicated by the public and private sector in this country and The Caribbean.
