Dear Valued Donor,
Education is the key to securing a better future for Indonesia’s children. The World Bank recently reported a significant increase in Indonesia’s poverty rate in 2024/2025, reaching approximately 68.3% of the population (around 194 million people). This increase is linked to the revision of the Global Poverty Line, which now uses the 2021 Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) standard, raising the threshold to about USD 8.30 per capita per day, far higher than the previous benchmark of USD 5.50 (PPP 2011). This figure contrasts sharply with Indonesia’s official statistics, which report a poverty rate of around 9 percent.
These differences highlight a deeper reality: many families remain highly vulnerable, and limited access to quality education continues to be one of the root causes of intergenerational poverty. Education is the most critical long-term investment for improving the well-being of future generations. However, adequate education requires not only motivated learners but also supportive systems, facilities, and strong institutional capacity.
Despite our limitations, Punthuk Sewu Learning Center continues to strive to provide diverse educational services with very modest facilities. One of our core initiatives for children is the afternoon learning program, where children receive support to review school lessons, develop language skills, and learn fundamental human values through discussion and interactive activities.
This program has been running for two years, starting in March 2023. In early 2024, we expanded our efforts by introducing evening learning sessions for children living near our facility. These sessions offer additional learning support in subjects such as English, mathematics, and other essential skills, helping to strengthen children’s academic foundations and confidence.
We will continue to strive to provide the best possible learning opportunities for children. Even small contributions, when sustained with care and commitment, can create meaningful and lasting impact for communities across Indonesia.
With warm smiles and sincere gratitude,
Punthuk Sewu Learning Center / Yayasan INFEST
