Starting English Course Class for Primary Students

By mufid | Project Staff

Following the Eid al-Fitr holiday in 2026, Punthuk Sewu Learning Center has resumed its informal education activities, including academic tutoring and English language courses for children and youth.

Currently, the English course is conducted once a week, every Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Despite limited resources, the program has attracted strong participation, with 23 students enrolled, the majority of whom are at the primary school level.

This initiative aims to strengthen basic English proficiency, improve students’ confidence in communication, and provide early exposure to language skills that are increasingly important for future education and employment opportunities.

However, to ensure the sustainability and quality of this program, additional support is needed in several key areas:

  1. Educational Materials
The program requires more structured learning resources, including English textbooks, reading materials, and dictionaries to support vocabulary development and comprehension.

  2. Learning Equipment
Supporting tools such as an LCD projector are needed to enhance interactive learning, visual engagement, and the use of multimedia educational content.

  3. Additional Teaching Support
Additional instructors are needed, particularly to support students at the junior secondary (SMP) level, whose learning needs are more advanced and require differentiated instruction.

With strengthened support, this English course program has the potential to significantly improve students’ language skills, broaden their educational opportunities, and build confidence for future learning pathways.
