Give Rural Children a Fair Chance

By Nur Abdullah | Project Staff

A child’s future should never be determined by where they are born. Yet across rural Indonesia, many children grow up with limited access to quality education. Schools often operate with minimal facilities, learning materials are scarce, and digital connectivity remains unstable. At home, parents frequently work long hours in agriculture or informal sectors, leaving little time or capacity to provide academic guidance. These children do not lack intelligence or ambition—they lack opportunity.

Since 2023, Punthuk Sewu Learning Center in Bantul, Yogyakarta has worked to reduce this gap by providing academic tutoring, character development, and vocational exposure for students from low-income families. We have seen how consistent support transforms hesitation into confidence and uncertainty into aspiration. However, informal assistance alone cannot dismantle structural inequality.

To truly give rural children a fair chance, we must build a formal, accredited vocational school that integrates strong academic foundations, STEM education, practical agribusiness skills, and character formation within a structured boarding environment. By 2028, we aim to serve 400 students from underprivileged households, ensuring they gain recognized qualifications and real economic pathways.

A fair chance means more than attending school—it means access to quality instruction, supportive infrastructure, and future-oriented skills. It means dignity, stability, and opportunity. With your support, we can build the classrooms, dormitories, and training facilities needed to change life trajectories and break the cycle of poverty. Every child deserves not only to dream, but to have a real opportunity to achieve those dreams.
