Building a Legacy: Transforming Rural Education in Indonesia

By Umam Hadinata | Project Staff

Since 2023, Punthuk Sewu Learning Center has been a sanctuary for dreams in Bantul, Yogyakarta. What began as a small grassroots initiative has grown into a structured mission: ensuring that children from low-income households are never left behind.

Today, we serve 50 students through a holistic approach that integrates academic tutoring, character development, and vocational exposure in agribusiness. We have witnessed how consistent guidance transforms hesitation into confidence, and how encouragement reshapes ambition.

But we have also learned a difficult truth:

Informal support alone cannot dismantle structural poverty.

The Challenge: Why Formal Education Is the Only Sustainable Path

Despite national progress, economic vulnerability remains widespread. Nearly 60% of Indonesia’s population still lives in precarious economic conditions. For rural families, this vulnerability translates into daily educational risks:

  • Inadequate nutrition that affects concentration and cognitive growth

  • Limited access to books, learning materials, and digital connectivity

  • High dropout risk as children are often required to support household income

When survival competes with schooling, education becomes fragile.

To sustainably bridge this gap, rural youth need more than tutoring sessions. They need structured, accredited, high-quality formal education that provides recognized credentials, stable routines, and long-term opportunity.

Our Vision (2026–2028): A Formal School & Vocational Center

Yayasan INFEST is preparing for a transformational step forward.

Between 2026 and 2028, we will transition our Learning Center into a formal institution consisting of:

  • A Junior Secondary School (SMP level)

  • A Vocational Training Center (LPK)

We will adopt the Boarding School (Pesantren) model, creating a 24-hour nurturing ecosystem where students are supported academically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Within this environment, students will receive:

  • Strong foundations in STEM

  • Practical skills in agribusiness and livestock

  • Character formation rooted in discipline and humanitarian values

  • A safe, structured learning atmosphere

By 2028, our goal is to empower 400 students from underprivileged families—multiplying our current impact eightfold.

What Your Support Builds

We are not just constructing buildings.
We are constructing an ecosystem of opportunity.

Your contributions will help fund:

Classrooms & STEM Laboratories
Spaces where curiosity meets technology and innovation.

Student Dormitories
A safe and stable home for the most vulnerable learners.

Vocational Training Center
Focused on agribusiness and livestock industries to strengthen local economic resilience.

Dormitory and Library
The spiritual and intellectual heart of our institution.

Health & Sanitation Facilities
Ensuring physical well-being and dignity for every student.

Each structure represents security, access, and possibility.

A Ramadan Invitation: Share the Joy of Transformation

Ramadan is a month of multiplied blessings. It is a time when generosity becomes a bridge between faith and action.

This Ramadan, we invite you to participate in a lasting act of Sadaqah Jariyah.

Your gift is not simply a donation.
It is a classroom that will echo with learning.
It is a dormitory that will shelter ambition.
It is a laboratory where curiosity will grow.

It is a foundation for generations.

When children receive quality education within a nurturing and structured environment, their life trajectory changes. Poverty loosens its grip. Confidence grows. Opportunity expands.

We are not only expanding facilities.
We are expanding access.
We are expanding dignity.
We are expanding futures.

Join us in building a school where limitation ends—and possibility begins.
