Scaling Our Impact into a Formal Vocational School

By Nur Abdullah | Project Staff

The Journey Since 2023

Since its inception in 2023, the Punthuk Sewu Learning Center in Bantul, Yogyakarta, has been a sanctuary for children from underprivileged families. What started as a grassroots initiative has blossomed into a structured community effort, ensuring that a child's economic background does not dictate their future.

Through our consistent presence, we have seen:

  • Sharper mathematical logic and problem-solving skills.
  • Increased confidence in English proficiency.
  • The growth of discipline, responsibility, and bold aspirations.

However, our experience has revealed a critical truth: Informal support alone cannot break the back of structural poverty.

The Urgent Case for Formal Education

Children from low-income rural households face a "perfect storm": high dropout risks, limited access to learning tools, and a lack of academic guidance at home. Without accredited qualifications and market-relevant skills, the cycle of poverty repeats itself.

Transforming our center into a Formal Vocational School is a structural response to this systemic inequality. It allows our students to:

  1. Earn Accredited Credentials: Opening doors to higher education and formal employment.
  2. Master Market-Relevant Skills: Transitioning from subsistence to professional competence.
  3. Gain Long-Term Resilience: Moving from a state of uncertainty to one of empowerment.

Our Strategic Vision (2026–2028)

Yayasan INFEST is initiating a transformative plan to establish an integrated education ecosystem consisting of:

  • A Formal Junior Secondary School (SMP Level)
  • A Vocational Training Center (LPK)

By adopting a Boarding School (Pesantren) model, we provide a stable, 24-hour nurturing environment. Our curriculum will focus on:

  • STEM Excellence: Bridging the digital divide through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
  • Agribusiness & Livestock: Empowering students to modernize their local economies.
  • Character & Leadership: Cultivating ethics, humanitarian values, and soft skills.

Our Goal: To serve 400 students by 2028, expanding our reach from a local center to a regional beacon of transformation.

Building the Foundation: What Your Support Creates

This expansion requires the physical and intellectual infrastructure to succeed. Your contributions will directly fund:

  • Academic Hubs: Modern classrooms and high-tech STEM laboratories.
  • Residential Spaces: Safe student dormitories that provide a sense of belonging.
  • Vocational Workshops: Specialized centers for agricultural and livestock industries.
  • Community Pillars: A library and a masjid for spiritual and intellectual growth.
  • Health & Sanitation: Essential facilities to ensure every student thrives physically.

Why This Matters Now

This is not merely a construction project; it is a future-building project.

When we expand our facilities, we expand opportunity. When we strengthen our curriculum, we strengthen resilience. Every contribution you make is an investment in a generation that will not only lift itself out of poverty but will also become the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.

Join us in transforming this Learning Center into a Formal School—where access replaces limitation, and hope is built on a foundation of quality education.
