Understanding Our Approaches in Education and Delivering Services

By Nur Abdullah | Project Facilitator

Punthuk Sewu Training Center has been implementing community empowerment programs for farmers and providing training services to farmers, livestock breeders, and youth groups since 2022. The programme aims to mainstream sustainable agriculture, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and collectively build an organic agricultural economic ecosystem that is environmentally sound and economically viable.

To achieve these objectives, Punthuk Sewu applies two integrated training approaches. First, the center operates hands-on learning facilities, including a sheep farming unit with a capacity of up to 150 sheep and one hectare of leased land used as an organic agriculture demonstration plot. These facilities function as practical learning spaces where participants can directly apply sustainable farming techniques, livestock management practices, and integrated agricultural systems.

Second, Punthuk Sewu develops and delivers both short-term and long-term training curricula. Short-term training programs are designed for thematic and skill-specific learning, such as organic rice cultivation, horticulture, and small-scale livestock farming. Long-term training programs focus on strengthening participants’ technical skills, business planning capacity, and understanding of sustainable agricultural systems, enabling them to develop farming as a viable livelihood strategy.

Punthuk Sewu prioritizes a circular economy approach that integrates agriculture, livestock, and waste management. Through this approach, organic waste from agricultural and livestock activities is processed and reused as inputs, such as compost and organic fertilizer. This system enables farmers to reduce production costsincrease productivitymaintain ecological balance, and enhance the economic value of their agricultural products, while promoting environmentally responsible practices.

In addition to training, Punthuk Sewu actively develops organic agricultural commodities, including organic rice, which is marketed under the “Nusantara Organik” brand. This initiative serves as a market-testing platform for organic products, supporting farmers and emerging farming communities in accessing markets for their produce. By linking production with marketing, Punthuk Sewu helps reduce market barriers commonly faced by small-scale and beginner farmers.

Punthuk Sewu also provides ongoing mentoring and accompaniment to agricultural communities, covering capacity strengthening, organizational development, and product marketing. This process is designed to ensure that farmers and livestock keepers gain direct and sustainable benefits from increased technical capacity, stronger group organization, and improved market access.

Through these integrated approaches, Punthuk Sewu Training Center contributes to building resilient farming communities, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and supporting inclusive rural economic development.

How Your Donation Makes a Difference

Your donation plays a critical role in strengthening Punthuk Sewu Training Center as a hub for sustainable agriculture and livestock education. Contributions directly support the expansion of hands-on training activities, theprovision of learning materials, and the operational costs of the organic demonstration plot and livestock facilities. Donations also enable us to deliver inclusive training programs for smallholder farmers, livestock keepers, and rural youth—particularly those with limited access to formal agricultural education.

Through your support, we can enhance training quality, subsidize participation costs for vulnerable groups, and offer ongoing mentoring to farming communities. Donations also help cover costs related to organic inputs, animal health, waste processing, and product development, ensuring that farmers gain practical skills while reducing dependency on costly chemical inputs. Ultimately, your contribution helps farmers increase productivity, strengthen livelihoods, and adopt environmentally responsible farming practices.

What Are We Developing Next?

We aim to upgrade our facilities and services to provide formal vocational education that meets Indonesia's growing needs in the agriculture and livestock sectors. Formal vocational education will allow us to serve more participants while ensuring higher-quality learning outcomes.

Our target is to develop facilities that can accommodate approximately 300 students, supported by adequate infrastructure, including:

  1. Student classrooms
  2. A library and learning support facilities
  3. An integrated training center and supporting infrastructure
  4. Student dormitories for learners from low-income families
  5. A main hall for meetings and large activities
  6. Sanitation and waste management facilities (toilets, bathrooms, waste processing)
  7. A school administration office

How Can You Support Us?

Your support can make a real difference and accelerate our efforts to build a modern vocational school with adequate educational facilities. By supporting us, you help bring this vision to life and expand access to quality education for children, youth, and rural communities.
