Dear Supporters and Friends,
As we enter this meaningful season, we are writing to share how your generosity is transforming afternoons and evenings at the Punthuk Sewu Learning Center. With Ramadan approaching, we have designed a special curriculum that balances spiritual traditions with high-impact learning for the underprivileged children and youth in rural Bantul.
Our goal is to ensure that learning never stops, even during the fasting month. Here are the key initiatives we are implementing thanks to your continued support:
1. Sunset English Sessions (Pre-Iftar Classes)
To make the most of the quiet hours before breaking the fast, we are hosting interactive English courses in the late afternoons. By turning the "waiting time" for Iftar into a productive learning window, students can improve their language skills through fun, conversational activities in a relaxed environment.
2. The "Read to Lead" Literacy Program
We believe that reading is the gateway to a better future. This Ramadan, we are intensifying our efforts to foster a reading culture:
Mentored Reading: Once a week, students engage in guided reading sessions where they explore novels and inspiring stories alongside a dedicated mentor.
Borrow & Reflect: Students are encouraged to take books home. To build critical thinking and writing skills, they will create a brief resume (summary) of each book, which they will then share with their classmates.
3. Academic Continuity Post-Tarawih
To respect local traditions, we have adjusted our schedule for core school subjects. Tutoring sessions will continue as usual, held after the Tarawih prayers. This allows students to remain consistent in their formal studies without missing out on important community and family worship time at home.
Building the Future: Our 2026 Vision
Every class held this Ramadan is a step toward our larger vision: transforming this center into an accredited vocational school. By providing structured and sustainable education, we are creating a permanent pathway for these children to break the cycle of poverty through green vocational skills.
A Season of Giving Ramadan is a time of reflection and immense generosity. We are deeply grateful that you have chosen to invest in the potential of these young learners. Your support provides the books, the lighting for evening classes, and the mentors who make this all possible.
With gratitude,
The Punthuk Sewu Learning Center Team
