Empowering Parents: The Heart of a Child's Education

By Umam Hadinata | Teacher at Punthuk Sewu

Dear Dedicated Supporters,

At Punthuk Sewu Learning Center, we recognize that a child’s education does not end when the school bell rings. While our center provides the tools, parents hold the key to a child’s long-term academic success. In rural communities, however, parents often feel unequipped or too busy with farm work to support their children’s studies.

To bridge this gap, we have initiated a special program: "Parent-Teacher Partnership for Home Learning."

Why Parent Involvement Matters

We believe that when a parent sits beside their child to study, it does more than just help with homework—it builds emotional support, boosts the child's confidence, and reinforces the value of education within the family.

Our Collaborative Initiatives:

1. Empowering Parent Meetings We hold regular workshops with parents to discuss the importance of creating a "learning atmosphere" at home. We share simple, practical tips on how they can support their children, regardless of their own educational background.

2. Dedicated Home-Study Time Through our community outreach, we encourage parents to dedicate a specific time each day to accompany their children while they study. This is a time for:

  • Active Presence: Minimizing distractions (like television or mobile phones) to focus on the child’s progress.

  • Encouragement: Asking about what they learned at the center and celebrating small academic wins.

3. Building a Sustainable Learning Habit We are working with families to transform study time from a "task" into a "family habit." By involving parents, we ensure that the progress made at Punthuk Sewu is sustained and nurtured at home, creating a 24/7 ecosystem of learning.

Creating Lasting Change Together

Your contributions do not just fund a classroom; they fund a community movement. By empowering parents to be active participants in their children's education, we are strengthening the social fabric of rural Bantul and ensuring that the next generation has the support system they need to succeed in our future Eco-Vocational School.

When a parent and a teacher stand together, a child can achieve anything. Thank you for making this partnership possible.

With sincere gratitude,

The Punthuk Sewu Learning Center Team
