Dear Donors and Supporters,
For generations, Yogyakarta was defined by a sacred local wisdom known as the "Community Learning Hour." Every evening between 7:00 PM and 8.30 PM, the city's atmosphere would shift into a collective silence; residents turned off their televisions, avoided travel, and minimized noise to honor the children's time to study. It wasn't just a rule, but a shared social contract that placed education at the very center of community life. However, since the turn of the millennium, this tradition has gradually eroded, replaced by the constant noise of the digital age and a fading sense of collective discipline.
At Punthuk Sewu, this cultural legacy is too valuable to lose. To bring it back, we have moved beyond simply putting up signs; we are actively facilitating the "Community Learning Hour" by providing a dedicated space and direct mentorship for local children. During these crucial hours, our facility becomes a hub of activity where students receive the guidance they need to tackle their schoolwork. By creating a physical space for this tradition to thrive, we ensure that children who may lack resources at home still have a quiet, supportive environment in which to excel academically.
Ultimately, our mission extends beyond improving grades. We are striving to rebuild the "tradition of learning" as a core community value. By reviving these quiet hours, we are teaching the younger generation that their education is supported by everyone around them, fostering a sense of discipline and mutual respect. We are deeply grateful for your support, which allows us to restore this vital piece of Yogyakarta's identity and provide these children with the focused future they deserve.
Best Regards
Punthuk Sewu Team
