Grow Skills, Reduce Poverty

By Umam Hadinata | Project Staff

Poverty in rural Indonesia is not simply about income—it is about limited access to opportunity. Many young people grow up with talent, motivation, and dreams, yet lack the skills and support needed to transform those dreams into sustainable livelihoods. Without practical education and vocational training, poverty becomes a cycle that repeats across generations.

At Punthuk Sewu Skills Learning Center, we believe the most powerful way to reduce poverty is to grow skills.

Through hands-on training in sustainable agriculture, livestock management, and circular economy systems, we equip young people with practical knowledge that can immediately improve their economic prospects. Participants do not only learn theory—they practice making organic fertilizers, managing livestock feed, planning agribusiness models, and understanding market opportunities. They develop confidence, problem-solving abilities, and entrepreneurial thinking.

Skills create independence.
Independence creates income.
Income creates dignity and stability for families.

By strengthening young people’s competencies, we are not only preparing them to farm—we are preparing them to lead, innovate, and build resilient rural economies. Education becomes more than a classroom activity; it becomes a pathway toward economic freedom.

When we grow skills, we reduce poverty at its roots.

With adequate facilities and broader support, we can expand access to vocational education for hundreds of rural youth, ensuring that more families have the opportunity to rise above poverty through knowledge, innovation, and sustainable livelihoods.

Investing in skills today means building a poverty-free tomorrow.
