Strengthening Access to Learning Resources for Children

By mufid | Project Staff

Access to quality learning materials is one of the most critical foundations for building a capable and competitive generation. Yet in many rural communities, this access remains limited.

Many children face significant barriers in obtaining quality books that support their intellectual growth. School libraries often have minimal collections. At home, families may not have the financial capacity to provide additional reading materials that enrich their children’s learning experience.

At the same time, teaching methods in public schools do not always prioritize strengthening reading interest and deep literacy skills. The focus on completing curriculum requirements often leaves little room for cultivating a genuine love for reading. As a result, reading becomes an obligation—not a habit.

Ironically, while internet access is expanding, it is frequently used primarily for entertainment rather than educational exploration. Without proper guidance and digital literacy skills, the internet has yet to become a powerful tool for strengthening academic capacity.

These conditions contribute to widening literacy gaps and long-term educational inequality.

What We Are Doing

Through Punthuk Sewu Learning Center, we are taking concrete steps to address these challenges:

Building a Reading Culture

We actively cultivate reading as a habit and a culture. Children are encouraged to enjoy reading, reflect on what they learn, and engage in discussions that build critical thinking skills.

Providing Quality Reading Materials

Although our resources remain limited, we continue to expand our collection of age-appropriate and inspiring books. These materials open new windows of knowledge and imagination for our students.

Teaching Responsible and Effective Internet Use

We guide children in using the internet as a learning tool—searching for credible references, deepening their understanding of school subjects, and accessing educational platforms. Digital literacy is integrated into our mentoring approach to ensure technology strengthens—not distracts from—their learning process.

Why This Matters

When children have access to quality learning resources, the impact goes beyond improved grades. They develop confidence, critical thinking skills, and the motivation to pursue lifelong learning.

Access to learning materials is not just about books or internet access.

It is access to opportunity.

It is access to a better future.

Support Our Mission

We invite you to join us in strengthening children’s access to quality learning resources.

Your support will help us:

  • Expand our book collection
  • Develop a child-friendly library space
  • Improve learning facilities
  • Strengthen literacy and digital mentoring programs

Together, we can ensure that every child—regardless of background—has a fair opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Be part of this transformation.
