Help Us Transform Our Learning Center into a Formal Vocational School

By Umam Hadinata | Project Staff

Since 2023, Punthuk Sewu Learning Center has been a place of hope for children from underprivileged families in Bantul, Yogyakarta. What began as a small grassroots initiative has grown into a structured learning space where dozens of students receive academic support, character guidance, and practical exposure to agribusiness.

We have strengthened their mathematics skills.

We have improved their English proficiency.

We have nurtured discipline, confidence, and aspiration.

And we have seen real change.

But we have also learned an important truth:

Informal support alone is not enough to break structural poverty.

To truly transform their future, children need access to formal, accredited, and sustainable education.

Why a Formal Vocational School?

Many children from low-income households face high risks of dropout, limited access to learning materials, and minimal academic support at home. Without formal credentials and relevant job skills, their opportunities to escape poverty remain narrow.

A formal vocational school will allow them to:

  • Earn officially recognized educational qualifications
  • Develop practical, market-relevant skills
  • Build discipline, leadership, and responsibility
  • Access clear pathways to employment or entrepreneurship

We envision education that is not only theoretical—but practical, applied, and transformative.

Our Vision (2026–2028)

Between 2026 and 2028, we plan to transform our Learning Center into:

  • A Formal Junior Secondary School (SMP level)
  • A Vocational Training Center (LPK)

We will adopt a boarding school (pesantren) model, creating a structured and nurturing 24-hour learning environment that supports both academic and character development.

Our core focus areas include:

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
  • Agribusiness and livestock training
  • Soft-skill development and leadership
  • Strong moral and humanitarian values

By 2028, we aim to serve up to 400 students from underprivileged families, multiplying our impact and expanding opportunity across rural communities.

Support This Transformation

To make this vision a reality, we are building:

  • Classrooms and STEM laboratories
  • Student dormitories
  • A vocational training center for agribusiness and livestock industries
  • A library and masjid
  • Health and sanitation facilities

Every contribution you make becomes part of this foundation.

This is not just a construction project.

It is a future-building project.

It is an investment in a generation that will lift their families out of poverty.

Help us transform this Learning Center into a Formal Vocational School—where access replaces limitation, and opportunity replaces uncertainty.

Because when education expands, hope expands with it.
