Summary

Since 2023, the Foundation has provided informal education services through the Punthuk Sewu Learning Center for children and youth in Bantul, Indonesia. This initiative offers learning support for school-aged children, English courses, and soft skills development, alongside practical vocational training in agriculture and livestock for youth. Challenge

The World Bank (2024) estimated that 68.2% of Indonesians, or approximately 194.4 million people, are living in poverty. The unfair start: where children from underprivileged households are trapped in cycles of poverty due to limited access to quality education and healthcare from an early age. Disparities in facilities, teacher quality, and low teacher welfare between urban and rural schools are key factors contributing to low educational quality and unequal opportunities.

Solution

The project helps the Foundation develop its learning center into a formal junior secondary and vocational school by completing the construction of modern, well-equipped school facilities for the underprivileged. With support, the Foundation will be able to extend its services beyond informal education, improve the quality of educational provision, and offer local youth and children access to quality learning, vocational, and soft skills education that enables them to build better futures.

Long-Term Impact

Education, including training, makes individuals employable, enables them to access decent work, and escapes poverty. It also enhances individuals' productivity and income-earning opportunities, mobility in the labor market, and choice of career opportunities or entrepreneurship. This project is a long-term social investment in preparing a new generation in Indonesia. We expect this investment to impact the welfare of individuals and families of disadvantaged groups in the future.
