Up until the 2015-2016 school year, the school went up to the 6th grade. As a result many of our students ended their education at that level. In order to encourage students to continue with their education, we added the 7th grade for the 2017-2018 school year, 8th grade for 2018-2019, and 9th grade for 2019-2020. Ecole Salem desperately needs to add four more classrooms to accommodate these three classes and a computer lab. We hope to raise $20,000 to partly cover the cost of the expansion.
Ecole Salem is a school in Desdunes, Haiti, a rural community with extreme poverty and teen pregnancy. Food, healthcare, counseling, and career guidance at the school remove barriers to education and empower the community to break the cycle of helplessness and poverty. Ecole Salem Education EBNJ Inc. is committed to educating every student from preschool to 9th grade. The student body has successfully grown from forty-seven students in 2006, to two hundred and fifty-four (254) today.
This project will build three additional classrooms and a computer lab for the three grades that were added over the last three school year. The computer lab will provide all students with computer literacy training which will better position them with dealing with an information and technology future.
More students will continue their education beyond the 6th grade level. Students will be better prepared to use tools such as computers to improve their chance of a better future.
