Project update

By Samuel Chigamba | Executive Director

Dear Supporters

I hope this report finds you in good health. I am writing to share an update on our project aimed at economically empowering persons with epilepsy. We have not yet been able to start implementing project activities, but we still want to keep you updated about our journey and the lives we aim to impact.

The project’s goal is to provide skills training to enable persons with epilepsy and their parents/caregivers achieve financial independence. Although we have not yet started the need for potential impact of this project remains immense.

Meet’’ Jane Doe’’ (Jane Doe -not real name) is a young woman who is a mother of two children, one of whom a 6-year-old boy with epilepsy, she is a single mother, not employed but relies on manual labor in order to feed her two children. Jane spends most of her time caring for her child with epilepsy, she goes periodically to the nearest health facility to collect her son’s anti-seizure medication, unfortunately she sometimes finds the medication out of stock and is referred to buy the medication from pharmacies, she is able to buy the medication but this leaves her I need of other basic items for the household.

Jane’s story is just an example of what most women who have children with epilepsy face, however there are also some people with epilepsy who are of working age but are unable to buy the medication, leading to poor drug adherence.

While the project has not begun, we are still exploring other avenues we can use to support people like Jane and many others who face these and similar situations.

Even at this stage of the project your support helps us plan and prepare for our impactful interventions. Thank you for standing with us and believing in our work. We will continue to share with your updates, stories and the successes so that you can see first hand the difference your support makes.
