Despite recent progress, Albanian women still have limited access to resources and opportunities. The project goal is that: Women in rural areas in Central Albania to improve their socio-economic situation by engaging in economic activities. The project will support 6 women farmers to construct and operate greenhouses aiming to improve their economic situation as well as will train 20 women farmers in food processing to improve knowledge and skills on preservation, hygiene and quality standard.
Rural areas of Albania depend on agriculture for their own food security and family income. Women have more employment opportunities in agriculture than they do in other sectors. In rural areas women face multiple challenges to small-scale farming. Farm production and productivity are hindered also by limited technical knowledge, obsolete equipment and limited availability of input. Supporting women's entrepreneurship ideas will contribute to improve their living conditions and their families.
Combining economic support with capacity-building women will increase women's knowledge and skills. Also will add value to the agricultural products they sell locally. By supporting women farmers with the construction of greenhouses they will improve their their socio-economic situation and could serve as role models for other women. Food processing provides extra income and makes sure that all agricultural production is used and locally transformed into value-added products.
When women earn more income, they tend to invest in their families education, health, and quality of life. For women to realize their potential as catalysts for improving the lives of their families and communities, it requires a coordinated approach of technical skills, rising incomes, and improved attitudes. The activities are designed to address these multiple issues and promote women into roles of a higher social status and a greater sense of personal agency over their own lives.
