This project will strengthen the incom-earning capacities of 125 idle youth in Madi Okollo district. The project will provide two months of capacity building opportunities in mindset change, business idea identification, development, and management. In addition, the project will provide the 125 idle youth with startup capital to support the initiation of a quick maturing business idle. It will also strengthen savings culture among the 125 youth to enhance the sustainability of business capital.
The current youth unemployment rate for the youth aged 18-30 years stands at 13.3% in Uganda (Uganda Bureau of Statistics) which comes as a result of insufficient employable skills. 1.2 million youth in Uganda between the ages of 15 and 29 are idle according to the state of Uganda Population report. This has exposed the youth to economic hardship which makes their future quite unclear. This project will focus on, creation of a positive mindset and enhancement of the capacity of 125 idle youth.
The proposed project will provide onsite training for the 125 idle youth in Madi Okollo with a focus; first on mindset change, business opportunity identification, business development and management, life skills including decision making, and group management. The training will also address cross-cutting issues including STIs and drug misuse. In a group of five, the 125 youth will be facilitated to start and manage their quick maturing business.
125 idle youth with relevant knowledge and skills managing their own businesses (self-employed), which will provide income good enough to provide for themselves and their families.
