Bee keeping can be a new source of income for the coastal region of Bangladesh. Most of the coastal people in Bangladesh directly or indirectly depends on forest. They collect honey, Nipa leaf, wood, fish, and shrimp fry from the Sundarbans. Their dependency and harvest the forest resource damage the forest and makes barrier for the natural re generation process. By introducing different type of livelihood approach to them, their dependency on Sundarbans can be minimized. Bee keeping can be one of that new livelihood approach.
In Banisanta union, Dacope upazilla, Khulna many people depend on agriculture. Through out the year they produce different type of crops and vegetables. Watermelon is the largest crop on the basis of production. Considering this Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) introduce the bee keeping at that area. In BANOJIBI campus 30 bee box was installed. This bee will help the pollination and increase the crop production also generate a new way of income by producing honey.
