Building a Resilient Ecovillage for People

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS) has made significant strides in transforming the Ecovillage into a living model of sustainability, resilience, and community empowerment. Located at the edge of the Sundarbans—the world’s largest mangrove forest—the Ecovillage serves as both a demonstration site and a training center for climate-vulnerable communities. Over the past few months, your donations have enabled us to plant more than 10M mangrove trees of native species such as Baen (Avecinnia officinalis), Ora (Sonneratia apetala), Keora (Sonneratia casiolaris) Golpata (Nypa fruticans) along eroding riverbanks, restoring coastal ecosystems and protecting the village from tidal surges. Furthermore, we conducted a series of interactive training sessions on green entrepreneurship, solar energy, organic agriculture, and waste management. These sessions have sparked hope and confidence among local youth and women, many of whom are now exploring new income-generating pathways rooted in environmental stewardship. The Mangrove Learning Pavilion, now upgraded with solar lighting and hands-on educational tools, has become a destination for students, researchers, and eco-tourists—offering immersive experiences in mangrove ecology, biodiversity, and traditional knowledge systems.

Despite this inspiring progress, there is still much more to be done to realize the full potential of the Ecovillage campus. To scale up this initiative, we need your continued support. With your help, we can construct eco-friendly guest cottages to host researchers, volunteers, and tourists—creating a vital source of income for the local community. We aim to establish a large-scale mangrove nursery to supply seedlings for community-based ecological mangrove restoration projects. Now we are preparing the seed beds in our campus. Each of these steps will deepen community resilience, reduce environmental pressure, and showcase how people and nature can thrive together. We humbly ask you to continue walking with us on this journey. Your next donation—whether big or small—can light a solar lamp in a student’s home, grow a mangrove that shields a village, or support a woman starting a green business. Together, we can turn the Ecovillage into a globally recognized model for grassroots-led, climate-smart development.

We are requesting all our donors to start monthly recurring donation. Please click the following
