Challenge

Striking about 50 miles south of Guayaquil, with a metropolitan area of more than 3 million people, the earthquake has caused significant damage to hundreds of homes and buildings. The death toll of the earthquake is expected to rise as search and rescue efforts continue. There is also the potential for aftershocks to cause more damage and trauma for survivors. Your donation to this fund powers the efforts of local nonprofits that can close gaps in relief and long-term recovery work.

Solution

All donations to this fund will support relief and recovery efforts in Ecuador and Peru. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted areas.

How Your Donation Will Be Used

Your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food, clean water, and medicine to survivors
  • Provide shelter and temporary housing to people who lost their homes
  • Provide psycho-social and mental health support to survivors
  • Support economic relief efforts
  • Support long-term recovery efforts
  • And much, much more!

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
