In the month since a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Ecuador, more than 1,300 donors like you have stepped forward to support immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts through this fund.

Thanks to that generous support, we’re pleased to share how seven vetted, high-impact GlobalGiving partners are responding to the earthquake. Here’s how your donation is already making an impact in Ecuador:

YACHANA Foundation is training youth ages 18-24 in masonry, carpentry, wiring, and welding to provide job skills to the community and assist in rebuilding infrastructure damaged in the earthquake.

MAP International is distributing emergency health kits with enough supplies to treat 10,000 people for three months; delivering water, sanitation, and hygiene education programs; building latrines; and providing counseling to earthquake survivors.

IsraAID is conducting community psychosocial support, operating child-friendly spaces, and providing clean water solutions in earthquake-affected communities.

Fuel Relief Fund is distributing fuel so that earthquake-affected families can have safe water and the capacity to cook and care for household needs.

All Hands Volunteers is constructing temporary latrines and public washing areas in camps for earthquake survivors, as well as designing, purchasing, and building emergency shelters for displaced families.

Israel Foundation - CDC Community Development Center is providing immediate relief to earthquake survivors, including food, bottled water, hygiene supplies, blankets, and clothes.

Volunteers for Interamerican Development Assistance (VIDA) is shipping emergency supplies and equipment to the central hospital in Guayaquil and clinics in smaller earthquake-affected towns.

Stay tuned for stories in the coming months about the progress and impact of these and other organizations on the ground. Thank you once again for your generous support on behalf of earthquake survivors in Ecuador.

Warmly,
Britt Lake + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
