Educate 10,000 Nigerian Men on Family Planning

by Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research Ltd/Gte
Educate 10,000 Nigerian Men on Family Planning

Summary

Nigeria has one of the highest fertility rates in the world, with an average of 5.2 children per woman. Limited male involvement in family planning leaves the burden on women, increasing health risks during pregnancy. This project will educate 10,000 men in rural and urban communities on family planning methods, safe practices, and shared responsibility. Training men as active participants will reduce unplanned pregnancies and maternal deaths while improving family stability.

Challenge

Nigeria faces high rates of maternal mortality and unplanned pregnancies, partly due to low male involvement in family planning. Many men lack accurate knowledge about contraception and rely on myths. The burden of family planning falls on women, who often have little say in reproductive decisions. Rural communities are most affected, with limited access to education on safe practices. Without male participation, families face repeated health and financial challenges.

Solution

This project will conduct workshops and training sessions for 10,000 men in both rural and urban areas. Trainers will use visual materials and interactive discussions to explain contraceptive methods, safe practices, and the importance of shared responsibility in family planning. Local health centers will be involved to provide continuous education and access to services. By equipping men with accurate knowledge, the project encourages informed decisions within families.

Long-Term Impact

Educating men on family planning will reduce unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortions, and maternal deaths. Families with fewer children can invest more in nutrition, education, and healthcare. Men who understand and share responsibility in reproductive health help create stronger family units. Over time, these changes will lower health risks for women, improve child survival, and contribute to more stable communities across Nigeria.
