This project will provide educational materials (text books, exercise books, writing materials, storybooks and teaching resources for the schools ), reading corners and four classrooms that will enable 270 primary school children of poor rural peasant farmers in Northern Nigeria who have been traumatized by the Boko Haram insurgency (their school buildings have been damaged and whose education have been disrupted) to have safe and hygienic spaces to enroll, remain in school and learn.
"In north-eastern Nigeria, 2.8 million children are in need of education-in-emergencies support in three conflict-affected States (Borno, Yobe, Adamawa). https://www.unicef.org/nigeria/education The 270 children in the primary schools adopted by Keeping It Real Foundation in Adamawa and Niger States have had their education disrupted, thus affecting enrollment, attendance and retention. Also because their parents are poor, the pupils lack educational materials needed to learn effectively.
Keeping It Real Foundation will provide the 270 children in Adamawa and Niger States in Northern Nigeria with educational materials like (text books, exercise books, writing materials, storybooks, teaching resources to the schools and the teachers; and set up reading corners) so that the children can learn effectively. Also, we will build four classrooms to provide a safe and hygienic space for the children to learn and this will increase enrollment, school attendance and retention.
The Global Citizen puts lack of classroom and learning materials as the 3rd and 4th barriers to education around the world.The project will provide learning materials and build 4 classroom to enable 270 pupils develop strong literacy skills, encourage school enrollment and improve retention thereby creating opportunities and reduce the illiteracy rate in Adamawa and Niger States in Nigeria. Also,the project has the element of teacher support, ensuring stakeholder engagement and sustainability.
