YACODO works with girl child to Eliminate poverty, GBV and end child/early marriages. We achieve this by creating environments that allow girls and young women to participate in various decision making processes at District and local levels. We build self-esteem, provide access to formal education, building community competencies to keep girls in school and produce academic high achievers. This project will provide education to 50 poor secondary girls and end 200 child/early marriages.
In the area where YACODO is working, among others, low human capacity development as reflected in low literacy levels and poor health outcomes, is a leading causes of poverty in Malawi. Girls do not take education ahead due to early pregnancy, Child/forced marriages, poverty, and gender-based violence.For instance, the area has recorded 254 school dropout and 166 child/early marriages and most of them being girls.Poor families fail to educate their children due to poverty hence a need to support
YACODO provides education, end child/early marriages and bring the victims back in school system, provide psychosocial support services to victims of child abuse and gender based violence. 70% of our beneficiaries are disadvantaged girls and households. However, this project will help to bring the victims of child/early/forced marriages back to school and become role models of their communities through the provision of school bursaries and sensitize communities on advancing girls education
YACODO advance girls education and also is strengthening the community competencies towards sustaining girls in primary and secondary schools, create a conducive and protective environment for children, popularize the enacted child protection related laws for communities action towards reducing incidences of child marriages and school dropout among girls hence ensure empowered girls; actively participating in their own protection and becoming role models to their fellow girls.
