This project will provide comprehensive educational support-including school fees, uniforms, shoes, and learning materials-to 500 out-of-school girls in Minna, Niger State. By tackling barriers of poverty and cultural bias, the project will directly enroll and retain vulnerable girls in formal schooling. The impact will be increased female literacy, delayed marriage, and the empowerment of future women leaders.
In Niger State, many families prioritize boys' education due to economic strain. Girls are often kept at home for domestic work or married off early. In Minna alone, thousands of girls are denied the fundamental right to education, perpetuating cycles of poverty and dependency. Without intervention, these girls face limited opportunities, early marriage, and lifelong economic vulnerability.
Through community outreach, the project will identify 500 girls most at risk of child marriage or labor. Each girl will receive: 1. Annual school levies fully covered 2. Two sets of uniforms and shoes 3. A full year's supply of textbooks and stationery In addition, community sensitization workshops will be conducted with parents and traditional leaders to advocate for girls' education and secure long-term commitment to keeping girls in school.
Educated women reinvest up to 90% of their income into their families. By educating 500 girls, this project will create a cohort of literate women who can break the intergenerational cycle of poverty. It will reduce child marriage rates in targeted communities and increase future household incomes, ultimately benefiting more than 2,500 family members. These girls will grow into empowered women leaders who uplift their families and communities.
